Personnel Telephone Numbers - FAQs

How much do calls cost?

X-on Personnel Phone Number users can make 1,000 minutes of calls to a Landline, OR 100 minutes to a Mobile each month for FREE (these are combined - for example you could use 500 minutes of landline calls and 50 minutes of mobile calls). Further outbound calls available at very low rates. Free calls exclude Non Geographic (087...) and Overseas calls which are at charged at the tariffs below. Calls to other Personnel Number users are always free when they are answered on the user's VoIP phone. Otherwise, they are charged at the landline or mobile rate above and can count as part of your monthly allowance.

What is a VoIP Phone?

A VoIP phone uses your internet connection, preferably broadband, to make calls. The phone itself can either be software (softphone - available for free) or a handset (connecting via USB or Ethernet) which you use in conjunction with your PC.

Can I make calls using a Landline or my Mobile?

You can use your landline and mobile to call from your Personnel Number and hence get the benefit of your minute allowance or low rates. When not calling from your VoIP phone, you must first call a freephone access number. You can then dial your number at Personnel Number rates and these calls will appear on your log. This acts as a 'charge card' for work calls, simplifying accounting and avoiding time consuming expense claims. Calls you make using the freephone access number appear to come from your 0700 Personnel Number.

I already have Voicemail on my Home Phone/Mobile.
How does the Personnel Number Voicemail work with these?

If you want your Personnel Number to ring, say, your mobile and home number together it is important that you turn off your 'Divert to Voicemail' on your phones and use your Personnel Number Voicemail instead. Otherwise calls may go to your mobile voicemail although you are available on your home number, or vice versa. You only need one voicemail, so it's best to make it the Personnel Number voicemail!

How do I know when I have new Voicemail Messages?

The Personnel Number Voicemail tells you in two ways - it can email you the messages so that you can play them on your PC. Or, if you are out and about, it can send you a 'new voicemail' text message. You can program the Personnel Number Voicemail access number into your mobile and it will work in exactly the same way as your existing mobile Voicemail.

My work colleagues all want a Personnel Number, but we share one Landline.
How do we know who the call is for?

You can record your name when you set up your Personnel Number. When a call comes through to a number that is shared with another user, the phone will ring and a recorded message will say "Call for [your name]. Press 1 to accept this call, or 2 not to accept it". You can then choose only to take calls that are for you.

How can I choose which phone rings when my Personnel Number is called?

You can select whether your Landline, Mobile or VoIP Phone rings, or any combination of them, from within the Client Login or by calling the Voicemail Access Number.
